Reflection
Interviewing Meredith really helped my think about my topic. Firstly, she asked what technological tools and devices I would interview in the classrooms. I then explained the new, free app called "Learning Potential" which intrigued the interviewee. I discussed all the helpful tools, activities, and the advice this app gives for teacher, students, and parents. Meredith had never heard of this tool before and she seemed very interested and intrigued by this new app. I hope other audience members will be this excited to integrate this app in schools to aid in communication. Meredith also highlighted the fact that for this app, you are able to plug in your child's ages!
Since Meredith liked the idea of having partial or regulated parental access in high school, I definitely want to follow through with that idea. I still think it is imperative for parents to know what is going on in their child's life in grades 9-12, but I do think students at this age also deserve some privacy. During this interview, another idea came to mind for the first time. In high school, students are more inclined to write personal papers than in middle or lower school, so I think it is critical for students to use their freedom and for parents to respect their child's privacy.
Meredith and I both think the best way for me to show my knowledge on this 20% project is by creating a poster board. My poster board will feature different apps, my research, pictures, and I will explain the importance of parent involvement in a child's education. Also, I will discuss how to do this by incorporating technology. Meredith was definitely a tremendous help and gave my great insight, support and advice!
For future students who are interested in this topic, I would recommend for them to continue the research on new apps students, teachers, and parents can download. Also, I recommend them to try and find new ways to get students on board with parental involvement in their education!
