From a lot of insight, feedback, and research, I have learned so much about my 20% project, "How Can Technology Improve Parent Involvement in a K-12 Child's Education?" I learned how to get parent and teachers interested as well as students. For the teachers and parents out there, I learned that studies have shown that parental involvement in middle school is as important as involvement in high school. Instant messaging and online chatting allows parents and teachers to communicate while their students are working in the classroom. Also, a parent's interest and encouragement in a child's education can affect the child's attitude toward school, classroom conduct, self-esteem, and motivation. In order to get students more interested, I have come up with a plan that allows parents to have partial, regulated, or selective access in grades 9-12. I believe privacy is very essential in high school and that is why I have come up with this plan. Since technology could be one of the solutions to decreasing the drop out rates and increasing college enrollment, I have come across a new, free app called "Learning Potential." This app allows busy parents to become active in their child's education. This tool offers age-appropriate learning games, helpful hints, and lots of articles. With this tool, you can even plug in your children's ages. Even though technology is extremely helpful when it comes to parent involvement in a child's education, parent involvement alone is critical. Not only is parent involvement key to student success, but parent involvement leads to better classroom behavior.
My final project was a poster board with all of my key information. I chose this as my final project because I think a poster board is a great way to show my research clearly. I made my poster colorful with pictures in order to get my audience engaged and interested. You can view my final 20% project below!

While working on my 20% project, there were some difficulties along the way. For one, I was unsure what I wanted my final project to be. I went back and forth between a poster board and website. I came to the conclusion of a poster board because we have made websites in EDIT2000 but I had not made a poster board in years. It was nice to spark some creativity and do arts and crafts! Also, during my research, I could not find a way to get students interested in my topic. It was from peer feedback from the video I made explaining my project that led me to the idea of partial, regulated, or selective access for grades 9-12. Overall, this project was very informative, enriching, and interactive. Even though this was an independent project, it was the help from my peers that made this assignment truly complete. Thanks everyone!
